WireMock Cloud improves enterprise developer productivity and helps ensure a great API experience for consumers of enterprise APIs, whether internal or external.
WireMock Cloud is a hosted version of the popular WireMock API testing open source software (OSS) project that adds features for enterprise API developers.
The WireMock Cloud team includes the WireMock open source founder, Tom Akehurst, who plans to continue contributing to the OSS project. Wiremock Cloud offers a permanent free tier for the cloud version.
Their goal is to build on the success of the OSS project and support the free cloud tier for those who prefer to “do it themselves” while at the same time building out value-added features that are attractive to enterprise API developers for the paid tiers.
For example, the WireMock API template library includes mocks for more than 2,000 public APIs to simplify integration testing. The template library is available in the OSS version for manual use, but the hosted version allows you to import a template into your project automatically in one click.
Other enterprise features include chaos testing to check resiliency, choosing your own URL for the mocked API, extended attributes for performance and other complex testing scenarios, and integration with Behavior Driven Development (BDD) testing.
The WireMock team plans to continue to build out WireMock Cloud to help developers go from their API designs (which is outside their scope) through to production deployment.
Currently WireMock Cloud supports Java and RESTful APIs but an alignment with the .NET version is in the works, as are additional API protocols such as GraphQL, gRPC, and events.
