An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
F5, Inc. is building out their Distributed Cloud Services platform to enforce a consistent security posture for all of an organization’s network-accessible applications and APIs, wherever they are deployed.
The platform buildout aligns to an industry trend, as we’re seeing a similar strategy pursued by other large cybersecurity vendors.
F5 is building out many of the platform’s capabilities using acquired technologies, such those from NGINX , WIB Security, Heyhack, and others.
The foundation of the platform is their original BIG-IP product, a hardware appliance for network traffic load balancing, encryption processing, and data compression, among other features.
F5 developed a software version of BIG-IP for virtual and cloud computing environments (including hybrid), which integrates with the appliance.
The platform integrates capabilities for application and API security from the technology acquisitions into the BIG-IP ecosystem.
These additional capabilities are configured into or accessed from the network path BIG-IP manages between the client and the application or API.
Additional platform capabilities include DDOS protection, malicious user detection, credential stuffing protection, identity based access management, continuous PEN testing, geographic filtering, IP repudiation, and so on.
F5 also provides a comprehensive console to centralize observability and management across an organization’s protected applications and APIs.
