CData: Connecting Data Sources for Applications, Products, and LLMs

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Adopting generative AI for enterprise use often includes training LLMs on private data, which increases demand for data.

It also drives adoption of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard for connecting data sources and tools to LLMs.

CData offers more than 270 data connectors that use JDBC and ODBC protocols, sold individually or in combination for data warehouse loading and unloading, data virtualization, moving data to the cloud, and connecting hybrid architectures.

They sell connectors directly to customers and to third parties who embed connectors into their products. Customers and partners can buy one or multiple connectors.

CData connectors also use JDBC and ODBC to connect to APIs, allowing developers to work with APIs as if they were an SQL data source.

They have announced support for LLMs with CData MCP Servers, creating and leveraging their SQL based connectors to connect LLMs to data sources.

An LLM can use any of CData’s 270+ connectors to access data source metadata and data using SQL.

CData also provides added value services for their connectors, including a data virtualization layer, ETL/ELT and reversal ETL, hybrid cloud deployments, and B2B interactions via EDI and file transfer protocols.
