The CES Of My Dreams

I arrived early for the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) here in Las Vegas, in hopes of finding innovations for the Internet of things (IoT) that promise to disrupt enterprise business models. After attending a few pre-conference press events, I must say I’m underwhelmed.

Sure, there are plenty of wearable widgets and smart home gadgets and incremental advancements for screens large and small, but so far nothing I’d consider disruptive – either for the IoT or for consumer electronics in general.

Then again, the show doesn’t even officially begin until Tuesday, and given CES is the largest tech show in the world, there may be gems in the rough out there for me to uncover.

cesbadgeI must also admit that I’m setting the bar rather high. Given the exponential pace of innovation in technology, however, no innovation should be entirely out of reach – if only vendors would have the courage to do better than incremental improvements and silly products that nobody wants.

What I’d Really Like to See

Walking the floor of yesterday’s press event did get me thinking about the sorts of innovations I’d like to see here at CES. Here are my ideas. Vendors, are you reading this?
