Driving Ecommerce Innovation @WalmartLabs

For most technology companies these days, the mantra is go big or go home. For Walmart, however, it’s simply go big.

It may be the largest retailer in the world, but when it comes to ecommerce, Amazon.com still runs circles around it. In response, Walmart did what it does best and went big into technology fueled innovation.

marwah@WalmartLabs is the result – and the eponymous Twitter handle is no simple affectation, as this group has some serious tech cred. Based in Silicon Valley (in other words, decidedly not Bentonville, Arkansas) with thousands of high-powered techies largely brought together via dozens of tech acquisitions, @WalmartLabs is pushing the boundaries of retail commerce innovation.

I caught up with Om Marwah, Cognitive Scientist at @WalmartLabs. Forbes selected Marwah as one of its 30 under 30 stars of enterprise technology earlier this year, and for good reason. Marwah recently graduated from UCLA with degrees in cognitive science and geography – an unusual combination. However, as luck would have it, combining these diverse fields fits well into @WalmartLabs strategy.
