What do football legend Brett Favre, celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, and Shark Tank guest shark Chris Sacca have in common? They were among the 11,382 attendees who descended on this week’s uber-schmoozefest Collision Conference in New Orleans.
Startups are Collision’s raison d’être. Hundreds of earnest entrepreneurs bravely put their best feet forward in front of a hungry crowd of investors, press, and various other hoi palloi, hoping to get funding, attention, and even some frank advice.
However, most of the startups lacked even the basics of a rational business model. Others feebly attempted to enter already jam-packed market segments with sub-standard wares.
The real challenge, therefore, is finding those gems in the rough – startups not only with real products and viable business models, but who also have a good shot at disrupting their respective markets. Here are my picks.
