An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Working behind the scenes for over a decade, Faction is revolutionizing the way enterprise organizations look at private cloud, particularly as they strive to create a new hybrid IT architecture.
The concepts behind private and hybrid cloud have long been the purported answer to striking the balance enterprise organizations need between security, compliance and data control on the one hand and the need for speed, agility, and elasticity on the other. The problem is that realizing this balance has proven difficult.
Private cloud deployments lack the agility, scalability, and elasticity of their public counterparts — unless an organization is willing to invest in significant excess capacity. At the same time, organizations have been hesitant to put the massive data sets that are their “crown jewels” in the public cloud. The result for most enterprises when it comes to their cloud strategy has been architectural complexity and more promise than possibility.
Faction offers enterprise organizations a solution. They provide dedicated, physical storage, network and compute, which is accessed by their Layer 2 Direct Connect network — meaning that organizations do not need to redesign IP schemas or other network configurations to leverage it. They also, however, provide pooled resources that enable organizations to dynamically burst as necessary — delivering the elasticity of the public cloud.
Finally, the combination of their layer 2 isolation and what they call the Faction Internetwork eXchange (or FIX) enables them to connect your data to your choice of public cloud providers such as AWS or Azure, but using your controlled, central data store — solving the data gravity problem. They are just now beginning to market directly to enterprise IT and are unsurprisingly getting lots of interest.
