NTT Communications: Tier 1 Carrier Enters SD-WAN Marketplace

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

NTT Communications (NTT Com) is a subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), one of the largest telecommunications companies worldwide.

NTT spun off NTT Com in 1999 to handle its long-distance and international communications services. Now it is leveraging its global Tier 1 Internet backbone to roll out a global SD-WAN platform, centered on the NTT SD-WAN Cloud.

Unlike other SD-WAN vendors, NTT Com doesn’t sell its own SD-WAN appliances, instead partnering with a number of the vendors in the space. In addition, NTT Com partners with over a thousand local providers of telecommunications services like MPLS, broadband, and 4G/LTE.

Included in its SD-WAN service portfolio: secure Web and VPN gateways, cloud connectivity, real-time analytics, and management of local services and equipment, some of which NTT Com provides while the rest are provided by customers.
