My Digital Influencer series for Forbes has featured DevOps thought leaders Gene Kim and Jez Humble, coauthors of the new book Accelerate: The Science of Lean Software and DevOps: Building and Scaling High Performing Technology Organizations, along with their colleague Dr. Nicole Forsgren.
Yet, while I featured Forsgren in an article on a conference panel on DevOps last year, it’s about time I shined the digital influencer spotlight her way.
After a few years working in industry mostly at IBM after college, Forsgren returned to academia to obtain her PhD in Management Information Systems (MIS) at the University of Arizona in 2008, followed by a Masters in Accounting the following year. She then worked at Pepperdine University and Utah State University as an assistant professor through 2015.
Her academic research centered on the relationship between technology and people in organizations. Her years as an engineer shaped her curiosity about the impacts of technology on teams and organizations. “I studied MIS, not computer science,” she explains. “I wanted to make the tie from technology to people and organizations. That’s going to be MIS.”
