An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last wrote about Platform9 in December 2016, it offered a managed OpenStack environment as a SaaS offering, and it had recently added Kubernetes to the mix.

Today, Platform9 has added Fission as well, an open source Kubernetes-native serverless framework.

The problem Fission solves: even though Kubernetes has matured substantially in the last few years, it is still difficult to install, configure, and manage, especially for developers who’d rather be spending their time developing.

Fission provides a simple, developer-friendly serverless abstraction on top of Kubernetes that is as easy or easier to use than AWS Lambda. And while Lambda can take hundreds of milliseconds to spin up a function, Fission can do it in one or two milliseconds.
