platform.sh: A developer-centric web app build-host PaaS on steroids

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

platform.sh logo - Intellyx Brain CandyWhat is platform.sh? Is it a hyper-speed cloud environment cloner? A jacked-up app design, test and build tool? An invisible container orchestration layer with sprinkles on top?

Maybe platform.sh is a little of all these things. What it seems to do well, especially for net-new apps and REST-style distributed app functionality, is provide very fast, production-grade environments to developers and SREs, hosted on a hybrid cloud and white-labeled to other service providers. There may be no such thing as a ‘DevOps tool’ but this could fit a tool chain for modern web and mobile devs seeking a home that floats automated environments to match each new Git branch or CI build request.

“I should be able to come up with an idea, and get it out the door, in infrastructure that is exactly like production,” said Chris Yates, VP of marketing for platform.sh. “Think of it as a serverless environment developers can view transparently — they just drop their code in and it runs.”
