Foghorn Systems: Machine-Learning Industrial IoT for higher fidelity data analytics

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Foghorn Systems logo - Intellyx Brain CandyA little time with Foghorn Systems CTO and co-founder Sastry Malladi makes one realize how fast the space of IoT has evolved, and how far the technology can still go until broader industrial adoption.

Foghorn has pushed a lean, real-time complex event processing and data filtering engine onto the edge of just about every programmable electronic sensor and mobile device produced today for most business scenarios, thereby attempting to unbound IoT from its current limitations of bandwidth, power and a lack of context to make productive use of volumes of data.

“Today’s users only tend to know if ‘something’s not working’ in reviewing data collected from IoT devices, so they get very specific failures or not enough sensor data much of the time,” says Malladi. “We apply an edge-based machine learning engine. You can train and deploy an algorithmic model, then provide inferencing and execution at runtime.”

The company is backed by a consortium of several of of the world’s largest industrial and electronics companies such as Dell, Bosch, Honeywell and GE who stand to benefit from IIoT, machine learning and data analytics improvements across an array of devices.
