Canonical Ubuntu: Charmed Distribution of Kubernetes

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Canonical is an open source vendor best known for its Ubuntu Linux distribution, which is perhaps the most popular Linux distribution across public clouds.

In the Kubernetes space, Canonical offers a ‘charmed’ distribution of Kubernetes, the Multi-cloud Kubernetes on Ubuntu.

‘Charmed’ refers to Juju, an open source modelling tool for operating software in the cloud. In Juju’s parlance, a charm is a particular type of high-level configuration file that includes all the logic for writing configuration files for a particular application, for example, Puppet manifests or Chef recipes.

Canonical’s charmed distribution of Kubernetes, therefore, is essentially a preconfigured representation of a Kubernetes deployment that provides architectural freedom and automated operations for Canonical’s Kubernetes customers.
