An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
In a world where the companies that best automate software delivery win, there’s a new butler in DevOps town, and he’s running at CloudBees.
CloudBees is generally associated with sponsoring the ubiquitous open-source Jenkins build tool, and evangelizing Continuous Delivery (CD) and agile development practices.
Now they have built out a new commercial-grade solution called JenkinsX, which launches our well-known software butler into a fully automated integration, environment staging and delivery service, one that is even ready to orchestrate ‘Preview’ deployments in hybrid clouds and Kubernetes pods.
“At CloudBees, we’ve been on our own digital transformation journey,” said James Strachan, Senior Architect and creator of JenkinsX. “We’re linking JenkinsX to GitOps to provide steady state environments that store all the variables, environments and source control.”
The new CD automation solution encapsulates all the delivered code and existing components as a ‘release,’ a component which can run on-demand in serverless environments upon any pull request, validated, then disposed of when no longer needed.
