An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
One of the industry pioneers in artificial intelligence (AI), Wolfram|Alpha has been at the forefront of the development of this technology. The company’s focus, however, has not been on the enterprise. As the enterprise begins to explore AI technologies and their business applications more aggressively, and with the continual confusion of exactly how to do that, the company believes that the time is right to begin working more directly with them (although they already work with over 100 enterprise organizations).
From the company’s perspective, the application of AI is all about creating insights — and to do that, you need data and a computational model to turn that data into knowledge. It sees AI as the intermediary between a human and the content they need to gain insights, make decisions, and take actions — it calls this process the creation of computational knowledge. And, according to the company, it’s the part that too many enterprises are getting wrong.
To create this type of computational knowledge, the computer must know and understand the computable data available to it, understand human language (to enable human-centric interactions), and must have a set of computational models that transform the data into knowledge and insights. This process inevitably requires human interaction to build out the computational models and their underlying components, but when it is done, the company believes that it will help enterprises realize their AI-powered visions. The company’s enterprise solutions are session-aware, which enable a more intuitive and fluid interaction. The company also deploys its enterprise solutions to co-locate with the data, whether that is on-prem, in the cloud, or in a hybrid deployment model, and integrates with operational systems via open APIs.
