Automation Anywhere: Bringing the Digital Workforce to the Enterprise

When you think about Automation Anywhere, you probably think of them as synonymous with the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) market. An industry leader, the company was very early to the space and, by its account, was in the RPA business before the term RPA existed. More recently, however, the company has been evolving its positioning to remain true to its original mission of helping enterprises automate every element of their businesses. According to the company, that mission requires more than just RPA and instead demands that organizations begin to embrace what it calls their digital workforce.

The company sees the digital workforce as a redefinition of work itself in which digital workers are working side-by-side with humans in what it calls the augmented enterprise. To achieve this vision, the company’s initial forays into creating digital workers combine elements of cognitive RPA, artificial intelligence (AI), and predictive analytics. The result, according to the company, is a digital workforce that can be ‘downloaded’ and put to work almost immediately.

The company offers a BotStore from which organizations can select, purchase, and download their digital workforce. According to the company, each bot can process relevant unstructured content and understand the resulting data in the context of their function, can execute pre-defined transactions and processes (but which organizations can then customize), and then perform analytical functions aligned to the bot’s purpose. While the company supports a comprehensive set of APIs to enable backend integration, it claims that it is its ability to allow non-technical users to download, configure, and deploy a digital workforce without programming that has been and will continue to be the driving force of its success.
