Humio: Log Analysis Fast Enough for Live System Observability

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Whenever I run into a log analysis startup, the first question I always ask is how they compete with Splunk.

Humio has a concise, two-part answer. First, it is far less expensive than Splunk, as Humio charges a fixed rate for any volume of data per year, stored on-premises.

Second, Humio has a memory-resident, live-streaming architecture, enabling it to perform analyses of massive quantities of log data in near real-time. It also doesn’t perform a full indexing step, instead performing a ‘light index’ on the timestamps only, for even better performance.

Humio works so fast, in fact, that logs are no longer data exhaust that provide information about the past. Humio’s customers can now use their logs to glean insights into live systems in real-time.
