Pixeom: Container-Centric Edge Computing Platform

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Pixeom offers a ‘software-defined’ edge computing platform that abstracts the choice of hardware, operating system, and container orchestration platform in order to provide scalable management of edge computing with a control plane that runs either on-premises or in the cloud.

Pixeom’s early customers were in the telecommunications and cable television industries, and the architecture of its platform reflects the needs of these companies.

First, Pixeom runs at scale, for example, on all the cable routers of large cable firms. Second, its on-premises offering supports the OEM and cloud offerings of its customers, who would rather provide cloud-based services to their customers than consume them themselves.

Pixeom’s architecture leverages containers, but is orchestration platform neutral. Out of the box, containerized capabilities include IoT support, publish/subscribe, Functions-as-a-Service, machine learning, and more.

In addition, Pixeom’s containerized architecture supports legacy protocols like SCADA, thus expanding the scope of its offering to more traditional industries like energy and manufacturing.
