White Paper: From Fragility to Agility with Business-Driven Automation

Workato makes it easier and faster for people to make necessary changes. In the end, the result has higher quality and is less likely to break as compared to RPA.

Combining both integration and business process into a single low-code platform like Workato’s, therefore, is the key to business-driven automation.

The individuals responsible for executing processes have a greater hand in defining and improving them [than they did in the early days of the Industrial Revolution]. It only makes sense that automation technology follows suit as well.

Things have changed since the early days of the Industrial Revolution, when the Jacquard loom was rolled out and weavers became loom operators. Business technology users today have greater autonomy in defining the business processes that they automate, and the automations that they oversee and operate, than a loom operator.

Bloomberg’s 2 Key Facets of Making Automation Dynamic and Business-Driven:

First, enterprise-class integration is essential to the notion of low-code automation, as many of the tasks within an automated process must connect securely and deeply to various applications and data sources across the enterprise, both on-premises and in the cloud.

The second essential part is business process management and modeling – giving the business automator the tools to visualize and construct workflows and other process flows using low-code tooling.

Bringing in the bots, however, is not the only way to think about automation. Instead, let’s bring automation to the people. What, then, is the role of a ‘business automator’?

With business automation, whenever the technology alone isn’t able to respond to a change, a business automator can step in and make the appropriate adjustment. The technology isn’t supposed to eliminate this important human role.

Changing interfaces in particular adds complexity to deployment. Because RPA usually interacts with user interfaces, even minor changes to those interfaces may lead to a broken process. After all, robots can’t adjust their behavior the same way a human would.
