MemSQL: A distributed, cloud-ready database with familiar SQL addressability

MemSQLAn Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

MemSQL may call their database a ‘NewSQL’ solution, one that straddles the line between a familiar relational database table structure and SQL query language, while touting the flexibility and web-scale speediness of more recently popular NoSQL vendor options.

The founders of MemSQL decided to keep what works best about most first-generation SQL databases, making it easily adoptable by development and data science teams, while making many other architectural refinements to accelerate threading, read/write actions and searches by separating compute and storage workloads.

“Digital transformation has really become a data revolution,” says Peter Guagenti, CMO of MemSQL.  “The companies that gain a competitive advantage simply ingest, analyze and act on data faster than anybody else to meet customer demand.”

Target use cases for the database are high-volume transaction scenarios, AI/ML data learning, and takeouts/replacements of large enterprise systems.

The firm recently announced that their MemSQL Helios 7.0 DBaaS is now generally available on AWS, with upgraded data management and web-scale reliability assurance features.
