An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
Scalyr bills itself as an observability and log management platform, but its offering is far broader than those use cases would suggest.
At its core, Scalyr is a massively parallel, cloud-based database that leverages its entire EC2 cluster of compute capability to respond to any search query with blazing speed. It works well with time-series data – essential for log management and other observability use cases – but also works with any other data type as well.
One of Scalyr’s secrets: it doesn’t use indexing. As a result, it spends no time preprocessing data, and searches can query any field, even ones with binary contents.
Even though its AWS-based DBaaS platform is multitenant, it rarely has to queue up queries. In the rare instances were a query might take more than a split second, Scalyr is able to implement a kind of time sharing to enable its compute farm to respond to other queries while it works on a time-consuming one.
Scalyr provides enterprises with a high-performance back end that doesn’t have to trade off scale and performance – and does so cost-effectively as well.
