NS1: Extending DNS to Provide a Foundation for Global Cloud and Edge Applications

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last wrote about NS1 in October 2017, its story centered on its rewrite of BIND, the aging open source DNS software package.

In the intervening time, NS1 has leveraged this improved DNS as well as core protocols for internal LAN networking to support global applications that leverage both the cloud and edge computing.

For example, one of the leading cloud-based storage vendors uses NS1 in conjunction with a global CDN infrastructure to create what is essentially a private cloud edge network.

The results are reduced CDN costs, improved DDoS protection, and greater security overall as compared to a traditional CDN architecture.
