ABBYY Update: Bringing Content and Process Together to Create Digital Intelligence

If you know ABBYY, it’s likely for its long history as one of the industry’s leading optical character recognition (OCR) players. They have long been in the business of converting physical documents into digital content. What you may not know is that they now go far beyond this starting point. Today, the company has evolved from OCR to what it calls Content Intelligence. This evolution means that rather than simply convert a physical document into an electronic version, the company’s platform can now deconstruct the content itself and convert it into classified, unstructured data, using what it calls skills.

While being able to convert, process, and understand content is a big step in and of itself, the company has also been making strides in a related area that it calls Process Intelligence. Similar to what others call Process Mining, this part of the company’s platform collects process breadcrumbs in the form of structured data coming out of core systems and then leverages a number of analysis tools to enable organizations to not only discover how full end-to-end process are functioning within the enterprise, but to monitor variances to those processes in real time.

While each of these platform components are valuable on their own, the company sees them as part of a broader enterprise capability that it calls Digital Intelligence. As the company sees it, the integration of content and process intelligence enables organizations to get a holistic view of how an organization functions far beyond what any single process mining, robotic process automation (RPA) or document conversion tool can on its own. It believes that the combination of this holistic view, combined with its artificial intelligence and machine learning-fueled intelligence capabilities will give organizations the full visibility and insights they need to finally achieve their transformational ambitions.
