WekaIO: Speedy storage control for cloud-scale application persistence

WekaIO is looking ahead with its parallel file system to help enterprises address a re-emergent DataOps scale and cost bottleneck in high-performance and highly distributed cloud applications.

Application compute resources have become more commoditized and elastically provisioned both inside and outside the datacenter, in multiple cloud provider infrastructures. The improved hardware storage performance of NVMe arrays and Flash-based SSDs — across networked object storage systems — has become the table stakes for running high performance applications. DevOps practices and cloud-native delivery efficiencies have only furthered the exponential intensification of data storage requirements.

WekaIO’s platform was designed to coordinate parallel storage and data persistence for massive cloud-scale workloads such as machine learning, image processing and genomics research, but it also has broader value for maintaining statefulness in the ephemeral infrastructure world of cloud-native application delivery and emerging network edge deployment scenarios.

The file system solves hardware and storage array compatibility issues by making data and archives portable across most existing storage hardware and data lakes already in use by businesses, as well as all leading cloud service IaaS providers and Kubernetes clusters. Global namespaces solve the addressability problem, parallelizing both ‘ultra hot’ high-performance memory and longer term stateful storage needs with cost optimization behind the scenes.
