SL: Non-intrusively monitoring app flows across middleware stacks

SL RTViewAn Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

SL is the company behind RTView, a real-time IT monitoring and data visualization solution that persists current system-wide insights through generations of middleware, from message queues, to ESBs, to modern service meshes and cloud-native event streams.

An enterprise application portfolio must continuously evolve over time. Through growth, companies inevitably accumulate both legacy and newer applications, integration methods, data sources, and DevOps tool chains. With this heterogeneity comes an increased incident rate, which must be preventatively monitored to prevent operations from spinning out of control.

Without requiring custom adapter work or agents, SL’s RTView pulls and presents data from many unique combinations of middleware, for instance, Solace PubSub+ with Kafka, and TIBCO on top of InfluxDB, or direct JMX metrics from Java plus IBM MQ, or Docker containers containing VMs.

A slick unified application message flow view gives way to a heatmap view for zeroing in on the dependencies that are currently misbehaving. Companies can also leverage their own observability tools like AppDynamics or Dynatrace to feed in system performance outcomes to the combined view. It’s not a surprise to hear that other software vendors have bundled RTView to add adaptable real-time metrics features without building their own monitoring platform.
