Tigera: Self-service control of cloud-native secure networking

Tigera Intellyx brain candyAn Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Tigera offers an active security and network management service layer tailored to cloud-native application delivery requirements, building atop the now-ubiquitous open source Calico secure container networking project.

Networking and security are inexorably intertwined in microservices-based architectures, as you could have thousands or millions of ephemeral container-based workloads coming and going, each of which must be addressed by services endpoints through Kubernetes namespaces, as opposed to the DNS-based addressing methods and firewalls used by legacy servers and VMs.

Enterprises seeking a managed service platform use Tigera’s dashboard and integration wiring to conduct cluster-level network observability, secure policy definition and enforcement, compliance checks, and vulnerability remediation exercises. Hooks allow developers to achieve addressability of existing DNS-based assets within the zero-trust cloud-native fold as well.

Customers could still DIY their own network security in the CI/CD pipeline using Calico open source packages within their IaC definitions, of course, but the firm also provides a self-managed certified enterprise installation package.
