Duality: Homomorphic Encryption for Collaboration that Leverages Multiple Data Sets

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

Duality Technologies is a leader in the homomorphic encryption arena, bringing products to market that enable organizations to combine and analyze data sets collaboratively without revealing those data to other parties.

Since we last covered Duality in April 2019, the company has deepened its leadership in the open-source homomorphic encryption community while rolling out products primarily for financial services, government, and healthcare customers.

Homomorphic encryption enables processing of data in their encrypted form without the need for decrypting those data. It is especially useful when competitors share a common goal (for example, fraud detection in financial services), or when there is a business driver for collaborative use of sensitive or confidential data (as often happens in healthcare).

Duality also offers confidentiality to AI, as it can encrypt both the source data sets and the models, leaving only the resulting inferences unencrypted.

In the grand scheme of privacy and confidentiality technologies, homomorphic encryption remains a niche player. That being said, Duality has built out valuable products for customers well-suited to take advantage of them.
