CloudFrame: Rounding Out its COBOL to Java Transformation Solutions

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

Since we last covered CloudFrame in July 2022, the COBOL to Java transformation company has added a discovery offering for partners and now offers its COBOL zIIP processor migration tool on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

The CloudFrame Discover tool enables enterprises and system integrators to collect information about their or their clients’ mainframe infrastructure and applications. It uses the information to estimate the assets and costs necessary to deploy applications to Azure.

CloudFrame Relocate enables organizations to move COBOL compute workloads to less expensive platforms, like the cloud or the IBM zIIP processor, lowering risk without requiring any changes to the existing application or support processes.

CloudFrame’s third product, Renovate, transforms COBOL into Java while also rearchitecting the code to comply with modern cloud native practices.

As with other COBOL transformation tools on the market, CloudFrame promises functional equivalence of the new code to the old.

However, CloudFrame also promises numerical precision, guaranteeing that calculations based on various mainframe-based floating-point formats will yield precisely equal results to the original calculations.

Since numerical precision is a function of compiler behavior rather than programming language, it is a difficult problem whose solution differentiates CloudFrame in the marketplace.
