Siometrix: Ransomware and Phishing Protection via Unique Device Fingerprints

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Siometrix can uniquely identify devices, computers, servers, and software-based services to hide target files from ransomware attackers or any other phishing-based attack.

The company complements existing authentication and authorization mechanisms by creating a ‘fingerprint’ for any device attempting to access any resource via characteristics specific to the particular device.

For example, Siometrix can use accelerometer data to uniquely identify a smartphone. By coupling that fingerprint with the user’s credentials, Siometrix can prevent any malicious user from using the device to access protected files.

Most other ransomware protection tools identify malicious behavior on the network, which is often too late to prevent damage. Siometrix, in contrast, identifies malicious behavior at the point of attempted entry.

Even should an adversary manage to place malicious command and control malware on a corporate network, such malware cannot access any corporate files that Siometrix is protecting.

Siometrix’s hardware-based fingerprinting approach works with anything with a processor, including many edge computing endpoints. Its technology also works with software-based endpoints, including microservices, daemons, and the like.
