Logz.io: Broad open source observability capacity with less budget cap

Since our last briefings with Logz.io in 2020 and 2018, this observability platform vendor has continued to extend its curated open source stack service to support most of the functionality engineers need, while mitigating the steep learning curve and data costs often associated with governing today’s distributed cloud applications.

Given how much innovation is arising out of open source software projects like the ELK stack and Open Telemetry, there’s a good argument to be made for taking an 80/20 rule approach to equipping engineers with the most essential monitoring, root cause analysis and trending capabilities available from a vast array of projects in a more easily adopted form factor.

The obvious difference we see here is a way more intuitive user experience, not simply due to smoother onboarding and improved UI and dashboards, but the AI-driven filtering of logs, metrics and traces behind the scenes to tag the data that might be useful to the engineer’s root cause analysis. Data that may be immaterial to business continuity could be compacted or shuttled to cooler and lower-cost cloud storage tiers.
