Platform9: Adding EKS Optimization to Managed Kubernetes Offerings

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

We’ve covered Platform9 several times over the last eight years, most recently in July 2021. During that period, the company has pivoted several times, settling on a managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service offering as well as managed virtual machines on bare metal Kubernetes using the open-source KubeVirt software.

Today, Platform9’s Kubernetes offering focuses on on-premises deployments of open-source Kubernetes. The company has a differentiated edge computing value proposition as well, delivering zero-touch provisioning leveraging KubeVirt and its managed Kubernetes capabilities.

Most recently, however, Platform9 has rolled out Elastic Machine Pool which maximizes AWS EKS utilization.

EKS is Amazon’s managed Kubernetes service – a popular offering despite its poor resource utilization. Platform9 leverages its expertise to offer an alternative to EC2 running on AWS bare metal  that delivers vastly improved utilization of cloud resources for EKS deployments.
