Platform9: Kubernetes-as-a-Service Anywhere, Including the Edge

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

We’ve spoken to Platform9 in December 2016, October 2018, and May 2020, as well as this month – and each time, the company has pivoted to different messaging.

What remains the same: Platform9 offers managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS) that abstracts any infrastructure, making it ideal for nascent edge computing deployment scenarios.

In reality, the company excels at delivering open source infrastructure as managed SaaS. Platform9 cut its teeth on Open Stack and then Kubernetes, but can now deliver specialized Kubernetes variants and add-ons like KubeVirt, all via its managed SaaS model.

KubeVirt allows companies to run virtual machines on Kubernetes – a specialized capability that is particularly useful in bare metal Kubernetes deployments on the edge that don’t have a virtual machine layer running underneath Kubernetes.
