Altova: Loaded kit of purpose-built data management and app dev tools

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

AltovaI remember Altova from my early days in technology marketing, as you couldn’t miss their XMLSpy ads in all of the software development magazines. So when I heard they were announcing a new version of their MobileTogether development platform and adding AI assistants, I wanted to hear more.

Today, their expansive product line of around 30 products used by millions of developers comes in a form factor similar to the Adobe Creative Suite, but more DevOps-oriented. Devs, ops teams, and data engineers can buy each tool separately at low prices and install them locally on their laptop, or get a Mission Kit collection from them with all of the goods at a higher discount.

The flagship XMLSpy and DatabaseSpy are still there, only with a natural language AI for declaratively asking for traffic metrics and data conversion help, with MapForce providing a near any-to-any data mapping for ETL between sources and endpoints. There’s also RAD and UML tools, service discovery, compliance checkers, an RPA-like process flow builder, even CSS style guides.
