Hydrolix: Streaming Data Lake for Log-Intensive Apps at Scale

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

Hydrolix offers a data lake that they built for streaming time-structured, high cardinality data – in particular, log files.

Because Hydrolix architected the data lake for streaming data, it has a substantial performance edge over traditional and cloud-based data warehouse technologies.

The company leverages sophisticated compression and indexing algorithms to provide always-hot access to both current and historical log data.

Hydrolix also stores log data sets in S3 (or S3-compatible) object storage, thus offering extended retention capabilities at dramatically lower cost than vertically integrated observability offerings can.

The data lake also leverages Kubernetes to enable Hydrolix customers to separate compute and data, allowing each to scale independently, thus addressing data gravity issues at scale.
