Synadia: Leveraging Publish/Subscribe and Network Abstraction to Reinvent Edge Infrastructure

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last covered Synadia in July 2019, what the company offered was hard to define.

Here’s what I came up with at the time: Synadia offered a self-organizing, cloud-native network abstraction that provided optimized and secure message interactions among any endpoints on the Internet, in any cloud, at the edge, or anywhere else.

That location-independent network abstraction that leverages the open-source NATS.io publish/subscribe technology is still at the heart of Synadia’s offering. Now, however, they have added innovative capabilities at both the data and workload tier to reinvent edge computing infrastructure end-to-end.

Synadia supports intermittently connected edge computing deployments at massive scale by leveraging its real-time data infrastructure to provide seamless data synchronization (both synchronous and asynchronous).

Coupled with its location-independent network abstraction, edge resources are themselves location independent – available as needed with minimal latency and massive scale, even when intermittently connected.

Synadia also leverages the open-source Firecracker virtualization technology to support microservices-based workloads – globally, at scale, with minimized latency. In other words, Synadia can replace multiple federated Kubernetes clusters with a single location-independent platform without the need for federation.

Synadia’s expansion into supporting application workloads leverages the same principles of location transparency while minimizing latency at global scale.

Synadia offers its platform as an enterprise subscription via either a vendor-managed or customer-managed offering, as well as a SaaS cloud offering of the same platform.
