An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
When we last wrote about Qumulo, we covered their Azure Native Qumulo product (ANQ). They now offer a comparable file system capability for AWS called Cloud Native Qumulo (CNQ).
CNQ offers Qumulo’s distributed file systems solution on AWS for media and entertainment, oil and gas, health care, and other data intensive enterprises, leveraging the cost efficiency, scalability, availability, and resilience of the AWS S3 object storage system.
Qumulo maps industry standard file types into and out of S3 buckets, allowing applications that rely on existing file formats to achieve cloud native benefits without having to rewrite the file storage layer.
They transfer files to the cloud using multiple protocols, such as FTP, HTTP, NFS, and SMB into a single logical volume on AWS. They use EC2 instances to map the files into an intelligent cache, while transforming the files into and out of S3 compatible objects.
They encrypt and optimize the files, and consolidate multiple files to a single object whenever possible.
Their cache management layer prefetches data to improve performance.
The CNQ solution, like ANQ, can also be used for backup and restore operations.
The Qumulo solutions achieve cost efficiency by compressing and merging files at the object storage layer.
Solutions such as ANQ and CNQ bring to existing file system based applications cloud native processing capabilities, including AI model training, analytics, and IoT real time data capture.
Using Qumulo for file management in the cloud avoids redundant operational procedures and duplicate cost of storage compared to alternative methods of transferring file data to and from the cloud.
