An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
The SingleStore database offers a comprehensive solution to a wide range of enterprise requirements for OLAP, OLTP, and AI applications.
The database supports transactional, analytic, and vector search workloads across petabytes of data with low latency response and controlled cost, reducing the need to move data across multiple databases, including full text search.
When we last covered SingleStore, the database addressed OLTP and OLAP workload requirements, consolidating those traditionally very different types of workloads into a single solution.
Recently the database added vector support for LLM training and MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers for gen AI applications.
Supported data modalities now include JSON, SQL, full Mongo, Iceberg/Parquet, and vectors. Results from a single SQL query can return any combination of these modalities, supporting joins and external tables, such as combined full text and vector, for example. Iceberg/Parquet support features near real time read and write.
The database allows customers to develop applications using MySql (SQL) or Mongo compatibility (JSON) interfaces.
Although the SingleStore database can be used to train any LLM, their strategic collaboration with AWS focuses on tight integration with the AWS Bedrock platform.
SingleStore recently acquired BryteFlow for data onboarding and to simplify migration to SingleStore from other databases.
Their adaptive platform locates compute next to storage, for example deploying a compute container in a Kubernetes cluster next to the data it stores and retrieves.
SingleStore runs the same database engine in the cloud, as an SaaS offering, and as a managed or self-managed offering for the data center, supporting hybrid combinations.
