An Intellyx Brain Candy Update
When we last covered LaunchDarkly in October 2018, the company offered a feature flagging tool that enabled companies to connect to customer value by helping them control the user experience at speed.
In the intervening time, feature flagging has become commoditized, and the challenges of building AI-based applications has supplanted the need to focus exclusively on the user experience.
To this end, LaunchDarkly has extended its expertise with feature flagging by pivoting its platform to runtime control for applications generally – which today largely means AI-based applications.
Today, LaunchDarkly supports three phases of software development: release, observe, and iterate. Its platform monitors application behavior in production to support rollbacks to the previous version of an app, either automatically or with human approval.
Developers leveraging AI coding tools may be using AI agents to deploy and debug releases. With LaunchDarkly’s help, they can also remediate issues in production, roll back if necessary, and re-release after the developers (or their agents) have fixed the issues.
In many cases, the problem in production is due to the LLM itself: either it provides inconsistent or incorrect responses (aka hallucinations), or in many cases, it responds too slowly or not at all.
LaunchDarkly leverages its expertise with feature flagging to offer ‘prompt flags’ that enable developers (and their agents) to automatically route prompts and other LLM interactions to different models depending upon the problem at hand, either as a response to a user request or as one step in an iterative agentic workflow.
