When it comes to network security, mid-market organizations are in a tough spot. They have many (if not all) of the same security challenges of their large enterprise counterparts. Because of their more limited scale, however, those mid-market organizations have fewer financial and human capital resources with which to respond to the challenges facing them.
That has left most mid-market organizations with only two choices: handle security themselves using on-premises solutions or rely on Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) to provide security for them. Neither option is ideal. Organizations who attempt to handle security themselves, struggle to keep up with the constant stream of ever-evolving and ever-escalating threats. Using MSSPs, on the other hand, provides more reliable security, but comes at both a high cost and with a loss of control.
OPAQ Networks, a new network security-as-a-service provider, launched in January of this year with what it believes is a better solution for the mid-market. Operating a global network of Security Points of Preference (sPOPs), the company routes all client network traffic through its service to secure it. Their real aim is to give control of security back to their clients by eliminating what they call the “complexity problem.” They believe this will deliver a more controlled, more flexible and yet simpler approach to security for the mid-market.
