Intellyx Brain Dump: Introducing our new Briefing Package

Intellyx is not your typical IT industry analyst firm.

Most analyst firms (including all the large ones) provide research into technology markets, providing the vendors in those markets with visibility and awareness among enterprise end-users while selling advice to both vendors and end-users.

This business model works well for them, but we believe it is unethical. How can you advise end-users on which products to buy while simultaneously taking money from those vendors without at least the appearance of unethical behavior?

Intellyx has a massive audience of enterprise practitioners and executives, but we believe it would be unethical to charge them for our advice given vendors are also our customers.

Instead, Intellyx only works for software vendors. The enterprise forms our audience, while our clientele consists entirely of vendors – aside from occasional keynotes for enterprise audiences.

We understand other analyst firms do not have such stringent ethical standards. However, maintaining this principle differentiates Intellyx in the marketplace and reinforces our credibility as independent analysts despite being producers of sponsored content.

The Importance of Vendor Briefings

While we don’t conduct surveys or other primary research like the big analyst firms, we nevertheless conduct vendor briefings, largely with vendors that aren’t our customers.

Briefings are one of the primary mechanisms we use to stay informed about the enterprise IT landscape, as we focus our efforts on particularly disruptive and innovative vendors. Briefings also enable us to build relationships with executives at the companies that brief us.

Such briefings have always been complimentary – but they must conform to our priorities for each call. As a result, we limit our complimentary vendor briefings for non-customers to once a year, and we require the CEO and head of marketing on each briefing.

For many vendors, this annual call is all the time they would like to spend with us. However, some vendors would like to brief us more often or have us join group analyst calls (which we only do for customers).

In other cases, vendors don’t want to put their CEO or CMO on the line, preferring to have some alternative representative conduct the call.

To address this need, Intellyx is now offering a new service: our Briefing Package.

Vendors who purchase a Briefing Package may brief us up to three times during the year, including group analyst calls. In addition, they may bring any representative they like onto each call.

As with our complimentary briefings, we will publish a Brain Candy blog post after the call summarizing the news or other information they provide on the briefing. These briefings also put vendors in the running for our annual Digital Innovator awards.
