An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief
The founders of PingCAP realized that existing open-source databases like mySQL were decades old and thus leveraged out-of-date architectures. Then they asked themselves: if they were to build the ideal open-source database, what would it be?
The result is TiDB. TiDB is a mySQL-compatible distributed database that offers both a row store for transactional (OLTP) workloads as well as a columnar store for real-time analytics on transactional data.
PingCAP delivers TiDB in three configurations: a fully managed autoscaling serverless cloud service, a fully managed, dedicated cloud database-as-a-service (DBaaS), or a self-managed option that runs on the customer’s infrastructure.
PingCAP architected TiDB for massive scalability. It can handle petabytes of data in a single database.
TiDB also offers vector search for AI-based applications. It also has built-in data consistency and is compliant with GDPR, SOC, HIPAA, and PCI.
The commercial version of TiDB includes audit logging and IP white list capabilities.
