This week, cloud-based service management company ServiceNow (NYSE:NOW) announced the acquisition of cloud management platform (CMP) provider ITapp in an all-cash deal.
This acquisition follows on the heels of the RedHat acquisition of Ansible in the fall of 2015 and the Cisco acquisition of CliQr in early 2016, accelerating the consolidation of this white-hot market.
The core motivation for such investment: enterprise adoption of the cloud has turned a corner, and has become the default choice for many CIOs. “Gone are the days that business services are hosted solely on premise,” explains Kevin Murray, Senior Director Product Marketing at ServiceNow. “That’s an outdated notion.”
Managing these enterprise cloud deployments is understandably top of mind among IT executives, especially when their companies have implemented hybrid clouds that combine cloud with on-premise, two or more public or private cloud environments, or some combination.
Hybrid cloud management is squarely within ITapp’s sweet spot. “Unlike most CMPs, we have designed hybrid cloud management solution from ground up,” says said Giri Padmanabh, Founder & CTO, ITapp. “We operate in both ‘brownfield’ and ‘greenfield’ environments. This helps us deliver value to our customers right away in their existing environments.”
