Zoomdata: Data Visualization and Analysis Built for Streaming – and Speed

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

While Tableau dominates the crowded data visualization and analysis market, Zoomdata has gained substantial customer traction with its differentiated streaming-centric offering.

Zoomdata touts its sweet spot as big data analytics for ‘modern data sources,’ which for the vendor includes Hadoop, MongoDB, and Cassandra, as well as streaming data platforms like Kafka, Storm, and the rest of the new crop of open source streaming data technologies now crowding the market.

Under the covers, Zoomdata leverages the Apache Spark distributed data clustering and streaming engine as well, giving it real time visualization capabilities, even over large data sets.

Zoomdata’s most interesting differentiator may be its ‘data sharpening’ technology, which can progressively build a visualization over large, complex data sets by running a sequence of smaller queries, proving an effect at the user interface similar to the loading of a progressive JPEG file.
