Datical: Database Release Management and Automation

An Intellyx Brain Candy Brief

When developers write code, they typically write some SQL (or other database access script) to support that code.

Their code would go through a variety of testing steps, including integration testing to make sure it works with everything else in the environment.

But what about the SQL? Typically, the developer hands it off to an already-too-busy DBA, who must check it manually, thus slowing everything down.

Datical automates this work, freeing the DBAs from tasks they’d rather not do, and reducing the chance of human error as well.

Datical also supports the creation and enforcement of rules, for example, how indices are set up or column naming constraints, thus ensuring that database updates conform to established policies.
