Cockroach Labs: Resilient, Consistent, and Distributed SQL at Scale

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last covered Cockroach Labs in December 2018, it was already touting its resiliency and immediate consistency, making it suitable for maintaining state for Kubernetes nodes.

In the intervening time, the company has matured its flagship database, CockroachDB. It is now finding traction as a cloud-native alternative to earlier-generation SQL databases, both for Kubernetes deployments as well as database replacement initiatives that seek to leverage the scale of the cloud at a lower cost than traditional database vendors can offer.

CockroachDB also offers support for multiple regions, providing seamless data sovereignty support with low latency, high availability, and a zero recovery point objective, meaning that no data would be lost in the event of a failure of an entire region.
