Platform9: Management Plane for Private Cloud Operations, including Edge Clouds

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we first spoke to Platform9 in December 2016, it was just bringing its managed OpenStack and Kubernetes as-a-service offerings to market.

When we next spoke to the company in October 2018, its focus had shifted more toward Kubernetes, as it added a Kubernetes-native serverless framework to the mix.

Today, Platform9 offers a management plane for cloud operations across all private cloud deployments – including those at the edge.

Over the last handful of years, telcos have been leveraging OpenStack to build out ‘mini’ private clouds at the telco edge (at points of presence, cell towers, etc.) Meanwhile, enterprises have been placing similar edge clouds at retail stores, remote offices, and other edge locations.

Platform9 provides a management plane that abstracts this full variety of different types of private cloud – and given its years of experience with Open Stack and Kubernetes, it is well-positioned for its now-exploding edge cloud sweet spot.
