Circonus: Kubernetes Monitoring with Actionable Health-Check Insights

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last covered Circonus in May 2019, the vendor was incorporating its time series database technology into an infrastructure monitoring solution, particularly for hybrid IT environments.

In the intervening time, Circonus has expanded into IoT and cloud monitoring. Most recently, it has added Kubernetes monitoring to its list of solutions.

Circonus built its Kubernetes monitoring solution from the ground up on Kubernetes, creating a monitoring tool that is both simple to install and scales with the Kubernetes environment.

This solution provides visibility into the performance of containers, pods, and clusters. Perhaps its most differentiated capability is its actionable health-check insights, which give operators immediate visibility into crash loops, disk and memory pressure, job and volume failures, errors, pod pending delays, and various deployment glitches.

The Circonus Kubernetes monitoring solution brings coherence across metrics from different flavors of Kubernetes, as well as other deployment variations that might confuse other observability tools. It can also recommend the appropriate remediation actions.

The solution can also leverage historical data to provide proactive auto-scaling, thus overcoming a primary weakness with public clouds: their reactive, often slow auto-scaling processes that don’t keep up well with Kubernetes’ needs.
