An Intellyx BrainCandy Update
It’s been an interesting period of transformation for Virtana since we last spoke to the company. In the words of a member of their leadership team, “A lot has changed, but at the same time, nothing has changed.” The company remains rooted in its long history of detailed monitoring, analysis, and management of infrastructure assets and workloads. What has changed, however, is that the company has realized that it could leverage this heritage to help enterprise leaders deal with a very modern problem: cloud migration and continual optimization.
While the cloud has been a hot topic for the enterprise for over a decade now, industry observers estimate that 70-80% of enterprise workloads remain on-prem. The real migration of core workloads to the cloud is just beginning. But as organizations start to migrate at-scale, they are realizing two things. First, you need the ability to efficiently analyze migration-candidate workloads from both a cost and performance perspective before you go through the trouble of moving them. And second, cloud workloads work differently from their on-prem cousins and require continual analysis and optimization in our newly hybrid world.
Virtana recognized that it had all the parts to help enterprise leaders deal with these issues and, as a result, is in the process of pulling their underlying technologies together into an all-new, integrated SaaS offering dubbed the Virtana Platform. According to the company, this new solution will offer enterprise leaders high-fidelity visibility and transparency into both the current performance characteristics of existing workloads, and the cost and performance implications of those workloads running in various cloud configurations, enabling enterprises to avoid any surprises as they migrate. Moreover, its platform will help customers continually monitor and optimize those workloads after migration to ensure that they continue to meet their ongoing performance and cost needs.
