Kubermatic: Kubernetes ‘Meta-Orchestrator’ for Cloud-Native Hybrid, Edge Deployments at Scale

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

We last covered Kubermatic in March 2020, when the company was Loodse. However, more has changed in the intervening months than the company name.

The company’s core value proposition, however, remains the same: Kubermatic automates the operation of hundreds or even thousands of Kubernetes clusters across multicloud, on-premises and edge environments.

What’s changed is the rapidly shifting context for cloud-native computing, as enterprises are looking to leverage the power and flexibility of the approach for diverse hybrid IT scenarios – scenarios that increasingly include various aspects of edge computing.

As a result, Kubermatic is now adding Kubernetes Meta-Orchestrator to its messaging. What is a Kubernetes Meta-Orchestrator? Here is an example.

Say a leading brand wants to support a variety of applications across multiple device form factors (at the far edge), while leveraging IT infrastructure at the near edge. Kubermatic can automate the lifecycle of such apps, including provisioning, updates, and support, across the diversity of endpoint types.

Smart devices are part of the story – add the full breadth of the IoT to the mix and the power of a meta-orchestrator becomes clear.
