Tasktop: Bringing Measurement to Value Stream Flow

An Intellyx Brain Candy Update

When we last covered Tasktop in May 2019, it was a pioneer in the application of the Flow Framework to software Value Stream Management (VSM).

The notion of flow is the progression of work for a team with few or no bottlenecks or wait states. For a software development team to experience flow, no one is ever waiting for someone or something else in order to complete their work.

The work thus progresses from the initial ideation of the software effort through to its final deployment, where the team adds value at every step of the way – hence the notion of a value stream – while experiencing flow as they go.

Tasktop manages such flow for software efforts, first by integrating with the various tools the software team is using across the lifecycle, and second, by providing measurement of the progress of flow across the software initiative.

This measurement, in turn, supports the ability for managers to have visibility into the progress of the software effort, empowering them to take action to resolve the bottlenecks and wait states that impede flow.
